30 DAY ANIME CHALLENGE: DAY 27

SADDEST SCENE EVER

Uhh. This post will be fixed tomorrow when I can access my laptop. I’m currently writing this on my phone so there’s not much I can do in terms of formatting and pictures. This post has been updated.

Hmm…a sad scene. The dramatic scene I featured in my previous post, though quite sad, isn’t one I would call the saddest. I’ve watched the Pain arc in Naruto Shippuden many times and Jiraiya’s fight and heroic death gets to me every time. I think cried for days after watching it for the first time.jiraiya death I also cried towards the end of Kobato (Episode 23), and my mom asked me what was wrong because I looked so depressed.kobato episode 23The Balbadd Arc in Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic reminded me that sometimes there’s no miracles, and sometimes there’s no turning back. Magi is one of those shows where once a character has fallen into depravity he can never return. It’s a sharp contrast to changes of heart in other anime (like Obito in Naruto).magi cassim

And there’s Anohana’s ending. This emotional roller coaster of an anime begins with the premature death of “Menma,” and documents how her friends tried to cope with the loss. You found me? No, I found sadness.anohana ending

But when planning for this post, the first thing that came to mind was, “Can it be more than one scene?” because if I could choose a whole anime, I would vote for Clannad ~After Story~ as the most depressing anime ever. I watched ~After Story~ back when it was airing and the pain that came with each episode kinda just lingered until it was amplified by the subsequent episode. I know some people like to say that they didn’t cry while watching ~After Story~ and that those who did are just weak. Well, I must be seriously weak because I cried almost every week. It was a growing lump of sadness that culminated into grief towards the end of the series. I had nearly lost hope. As much as I disliked Nagisa, I was praying for a miracle to happen. I just wanted their suffering–my suffering– to end.clannad after story ushio death The saddest moment of all was Tomoya and Ushio’s walk. Bah. In any case you need to watch Clannad and ~After Story~. I recommended them in my romance anime showcase and I’ll recommend them again.
